Solved Question
Find the missing frequency of the group 20-30 when the median is 28.
Class Interval | Frequency |
---|---|
0-10 | 5 |
10-20 | 8 |
20-30 | ? |
30-40 | 16 |
40-50 | 6 |
Solution.
In this question median is given to us as 28, this means the median class is 20-30.
Rewrite the above table and find cf.
Class Interval | Frequency | Cumulative Frequency |
---|---|---|
0-10 | 5 | 5 |
10-20 | 8 | 5+8 = 13* |
20-30* | F1* | 13 + F1 |
30-40 | 16 | 29 +F1 |
40-50 | 6 | 35 + F1 |
35 + F1 |
Using the median formula;
We have a median, lower limit
28 = 20 + {(35+F1/2) – 13} X 10 / F1
28- 20 = {(35+F1/2) – 13} X 10 / F1
So, missing frequency is 15.
